Why are ursans called tanks?
Ursans is more for damage, and yet everyone I know calls them "Tanks" and being a warrior, I know what a tank should be. 20 extra armor (at max!) and 100 extra health (compared to raven) + a 5 second weakened state to surrounding enemies just seems less of a tank compared to 30% block chance all the time, 10 seconds of blind to surrounding enemies (can't hitting is better then weakening in my book any day) with cripple and bleeding to help grab those attacking your back liners.
Yes raven does less damage overall, but is much more useful when you are supposed to be "tanking" Can't we call raven blessing tanking and ursan just....i dunno, big damage or something? Or am I missing something big that makes Ursan the better tank. |

A Tank is simply a term for a character, regardless of class, who can take a load of damage. If you think the only tanks are warriors, you still have much to learn. Many ele skills lead to effective tanking. Warriors, tend to be targetted as the primary because of their higher base armor and support skills.
In certain circumstances, rangers can be even better thanks as they have nearly as high a base armor, but also have additional inherent protection against elements that warriors don't have. As mentioned above, ele's skills can negate almost any damage if the right conditions are met, as with most other classes. Some refer to tanks in general as the same as a warrior, regardless of what kind of build they are running. You just need to be sure to be more specific about what you are running rather than trying to fit it into a nice catchword. Just like a nuker can cause confusion. Some see "nuker" and that means an elementalist. While others have some very specific echo-MS nuke build in mind when saying it. Just avoid being lazy. Now your specific question about the blessing. Ursan is probably the most effective "tanking" blessing because of the extra health and the ability to KD mobbed enemies. If you gather agro correctly, your extra health helps keep you up while the KD prevents the from running out of AoE, casting their own skills and just generally attacking. The others are nice, but are much more speciallized to the area. Generally blinding things doesn't make them as useless as KD. Casters don't care if they are blind usually, they care if they are interrupted though. |
